Hello parents,
We have had a busy, short week as we worked on activities that extended our in-class workshop on Canva last week led by the EdTech company, Classmate, completing art pieces for our artist inquiries, and also preparing our fundraiser.
As you may have seen, the snack orders went home this week and the Grade 7’s got some excellent retail experience organizing the orders from each grade into spreadsheets, counting and organizing the monies, and balancing the books.
We are all very excited to present our show on Thursday June 15th at 1pm. All of you are invited if you are able to attend. Please refer to the email I sent to all of you with details about the show.
Trilogy Brass
Retired members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (one of whom happens to be my Dad, Ray Kirkham), came to the school today to perform musical selections on their brass instruments (trombone, trumpet, French horn). From Bach to La Bamba the classes were entertained by some fine music. Gianna Abanto performed the drum on one piece and they also performed Happy Birthday to Ms. Boily! It was a great morning!
Chemistry in Baking
Today we conducted an inquiry into different chemical changes that take place when baking. We made small cakes, removing a specific ingredient in each cake and in one case adding extra of an ingredient to see the effect that ingredient had on the final product. Delicious learning took place!
Despite it being nearly June, we are still engaging a variety of enriching learning opportunities!
One final note/reminder, Friday June 2nd – No School (Professional Development Day)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Kirkham
