Grade 3

September 18th~22nd

Hello Grade 3 families!

I am looking forward to meeting you on Tuesday evening! It will be great to be able to have you in your child’s classroom and to be able to share with you a few of the things that we will be accomplishing throughout the school year🤗💕

This past week the students did really well at practising the Grade 3 classroom routines. They did so well that I was already able to do the Read Well assessments!

Read Well in grade 3 is slightly different compared to what they experienced in Grade 1 and 2: the students will be doing teacher-directed instruction to develop their reading and comprehension skills, learning various grammar points, doing collaborative and independent work, along with transcript review/cursive handwriting.

Three groups will be working quietly at their stations while I do the teacher-directed instruction with the fourth group.

Last week we did our spelling words practise and the students had their first spelling test. Every first day of the school week, your child will write their spelling words in their agenda for home practise. Please have them practise their spelling words daily at home throughout the week. The spelling test will be every Friday, unless it’s a holiday. Then it will be on the Thursday.

On Friday the students brought home the Our Father prayer for home practise. It’s in their transparent agenda pocket. They will be assessed on their knowing the prayer next week. I will talk more about this during our Meet the Teacher Night.

Last week we started a math unit on increasing and decreasing patterns. This coming Monday your child will bring home information on math-related activities for this unit that you can do with them at home. They are fun activities that will reinforce what your child is learning at school, can often be done as a family, and will bring what they are learning out of the classroom into the real world!

Here is a gentle reminder on how much your child should aim to collect in pledges for the Walkathon: Our Walkathon total last year was $69,653.00, and we’re hoping to beat it this year!  Averaged out over our 180 families, that would equal approximately $385 worth of pledges per family. Students are encouraged to ask family members, relatives, family friends, and neighbours, all with parent permission and supervision. Together, we can do this🤗💙!

Please enter the Teacher Code: RC143526 to place an order online. This allows Grade 3 to receive points with each purchase. With the points, I order new books and various items for the Grade 3 classroom. You can have your book order delivered to the classroom for free.

The students will be bringing the paper flyers home on Monday. Any orders that are brought in to me will be ordered on the Friday of this week.
