Grade 3

September 11th ~ 15th

Hello Grade 3 Families!

It was great to start to get to know your children last week 🤗💙! We had a wonderful first week of school, and the students are well into learning the Grade 3 routines!

On Tuesday each of the Grade 3 students was given a responsibility in the classroom. This is to help them become progressively more responsible, since next year they will be the older Buddies for the Grade 1 students (Yes, already!). This is their last year being part of  “the younger ones” in primary.

Your child will be bringing their agenda home every school day. In it they will be writing down their daily homework and any important information for the following day. Please take the time to read it and place your initials on the bottom right hand corner. Since we will be doing agendas at the end of the school day, any important messages should be communicated to me by email before 8:15 am. Once the students start to arrive, and the school day begins, I rarely have time to look at any received messages before the end of the day.

Last week the Grade 3 students practiced filling in their RED (Read Every Day) reading log during class time. Starting tomorrow, it will be part of their daily homework. Please ask them to show you how they are supposed to do it at home on Monday evening, prior to their doing it on their own. This will be a gentle reminder for them, and allow them to have the pleasure of  showing you what they know.

During the months of  September and October, the Grade 3 students will be required to read for 20 minutes.  Starting November, this will be bumped up to 30 minutes. Whenever possible, please have your child read out loud to you. This will help prepare them for the many oral presentations they will be doing in Grade 3 in front of their peers.

Reading every day makes a big difference in developing their reading skills, and it also strengthens their writing skills by helping them acquire new vocabulary!

I am looking forward to meeting you on “Meet the Teacher Night” next Tuesday, September 19th! It will be great to be able to share with you what we will be accomplishing throughout the school year^^*
