Hello Grade 3 Families!
This week will be a very short week. For this reason, there will be no spelling words. On Thursday and Friday the staff at St. Paul’s will be attending the Catholic Educators’ Conference to nurture our faith and to instill that love into our teaching.
In this term the Grade 3 students will be doing a cross-curricular lesson involving Science, Language Arts, and Visual Art.
In science we have started a unit on biomes and ecosystems. The students will work with a partner with whom they will choose an animal and do research on the animal’s habitat. In Visual Art they will recreate it’s habitat in a diorama.
The students will do their research during class time. If they choose to, they can do some research at home.
The students will also be adding their research-related information in a pre-written skit with their partner in LA. The skit will be about a Science Fair Exhibition where they will be showcasing and talking about the animal and it’s habitat. They will have the option of changing the pre-written information to personalize their skit.
The skit will be recorded on video which will also be a Visual Art component. The students will show the video to you on Student Led Conference Day.
In Math the students have already started the unit on 3-digit addition and subtraction, and writing problem stories. When they have completed this unit we will do a unit on multiplication and division.

*Due to Ash Wednesday being on February 14th, Valentine’s Dress Down Day will be on Tuesday, February 13th.

- Yummy Pasta Hot Lunch: please have your child bring their own cutlery
Tuesday ~ February 13th
- Valentine’s Day Dress Down Day: students may wear red, pink and/or white clothes to school instead of their uniform
- Valentine’s Day Treats: if your child brings Valentine’s Day cards/treats to school for their classmates please make sure that there is one for everyone just as you did on Halloween, and that treats are individually wrapped and nut-free. The students will be able to bring their treats home in the reusable gold bags identified by their student number.*Bringing cards/treats is entirely optional.
