Track and Field Season 2022!

Hi Everyone:

Greetings from beautiful Camp Elphinstone on the Sunshine Coast.  I am having a wonderful time with our Gr. 7 class at Outdoor Education. Please continue to keep us in your prayers over the next 2 days that we will continue to enjoy the good weather and all that camp has to offer.  I am so grateful to be here.

Track and Field season this year will feel fast and furious.  Practices will begin for all students on Monday May 2, 2022.  We have one week to prepare for our Track Meet with St. Joseph the Worker School which will take place on  Monday May 9, 2022.  All students in Gr. 3-7 will take part in this event as part of our PE programming.  Students will be taking part in individual sprint races, 4 X 100m relays, long jump and softball throw events.  Longer distance events (400m, 800m, 1500m) will be optional for all students.

Our track practices will be held @ Minoru Track.  Morning sprints and relays practices will begin at 7:30am sharp and run until 8:15 am.  Students will then make their way from the track to school for our 8:30-8:45 arrival time.  Students should wear their gym strip and runners to practice as well as appropriate outer layers (hoodies, toques, rain jackets etc.) depending on the weather.

Long distance running will take place at Minoru on Tuesday and Thursdays after school.  Practice will begin as close to 3:15 pm as is possible and will run until 4:00 pm.  Again, participation in longer distance events is optional for all students.

The practice schedule will be as follows:

Week of May 2- 6, 2022

Monday:

7:30 – 8:15 – Gr. 5-7 Sprints and Relays practice

Tuesday:

7:30 – 8:15 – Gr. 3 & 4 Sprints and Relays practice

Thursday:

7:30 – 8:15 – Gr. 3 & 4 Sprints and Relays practice

3:00 – 4:00 – Gr. 3-7 Long distance practice (optional)

Friday:

7:30 – 8:15 – Gr. 3-7 Sprints and Relays practice. (kind of like a “dress rehearsal” for the meet.)

Long jump practice will be a part of our morning practices as well to give all students an opportunity to practice this event ahead of competition on May 9, 2022.

We will also be using our PE time next week to practice our baton passing, running and jumping techniques, and the softball throw event.

Thank you in advance for your support of our Track program and practices as we gradually work our way back to our full participation in CISVA athletics.  I am excited for next week!
