Kindergarten

January 17-21

Kindergarten had a great first week back! The children were so excited to see all their friends again and to share how they celebrated over the holidays. These conversations about celebrations continued as the students began learning about Baptism this week! They were so happy to find out that when they got baptized, they became a part of God’s family by receiving the Holy Spirit. The children even acted out a Baptism, by taking on the role of different people present at this special sacrament!

Today, we also recognized Black Excellence Day in support of anti-racism. The students watched a Sesame Street video about how it’s wrong to treat people unfairly because of the colour of their skin. We also read a story called It’s Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr and had a class discussion about how God made us all differently and that we are special and unique.

  2. Baptism Memento– In continuation with our Celebrations unit, we ask that each student bring in one memento from their own baptism (i.e. photo, candle, certificate etc.) to share with the class. If you do not have a Baptism memento, you are welcome to bring in a keepsake from another family celebration! Please place the item in a bag, labelled with your child’s name and have it brought in by Tuesday. Please see your email for more information.
  3. Number Formation- Inside your child’s Reading Book (yellow duotang) is a sheet with short rhymes that will help them practice their number printing. We ask that you review these rhymes with your child and that they continue to practice their number formation at home. Please see the attachment below for a copy of this sheet, if needed.
  4. My Read Well” book– Please review the letter of the week and use the “Parent Prompt” questions (found on the bottom of the page) with your child.
    • If you notice that your child has not finished the back of their Letter Record page in class, please brainstorm with them three words that begin with that letter. Then, have them write down the three words on the dotted lines and draw their corresponding pictures in the blank box.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. Homework folders– These will continue to be sent home every day. Please check the folders daily and send them back to school every day as your child is expected to hand them in each morning.
