Grade 7

Looking ahead to Week of Oct 18 – 22

Hello Grade 7 Parents,

This past week we began our FSA’s (Foundational Skill Assessments). This is a standardized assessment provided by the Ministry of Education to assess particular curricular skills and content knowledge in the areas of Numeracy and Literacy via a standardized testing format. It is meant to provide the student, the school and the Ministry a sense of ‘where the students are at’ with their knowledge of curricular concepts/content and application of curricular skills.

All of the components are completed in class between now and the end of October. Part of this will be done online and the other portion is completed in a booklet.

While the students’ scores are not used on any formal reporting at St. Paul School, I do use them as an opportunity to check in with their baseline problem-solving abilities and knowledge of mathematical content up to Grade Six, as well as a check-in for reading comprehension skills and use of the PEEL writing structure format on the written responses, which we have been practicing in class.

The results for the entire FSA will not be made available immediately as they must be first processed by the Ministry’s administrators of the FSA. When they are ready, the booklets and online score will be sent home for you to view.

Parent-Teacher (Learning) Conferences

Thank you for registering for a time to briefly meet with me on either Thursday October 21 or Friday October 22 to discuss your child’s transition into Grade 7 over the past six weeks.

If you have not yet done so, please book online using the information on the letter that went home last week.

Just a reminder that school dismisses at 12pm on the Thursday, followed by conferences from 1-8pm and there will be no classes on Friday October 22, with conferences happening in the morning only.

Walkathon Video

Lastly, I sent an email yesterday with a video attachment, made by Richelle Gonzales, featuring pictures of this year’s Walkathon (just Grade 7 photos).
A big thanks to Richelle for putting it together – enjoy!
Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you next week.
