Grade 5

Week of September 25 – 29, 2023

Hello Grade Five Families!

Happy First Day of Fall! Autumn is such a beautiful season with its lovely colours and blustery storms. We have many special days including Truth and Reconciliation Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Remembrance Day. Most important are the faithful times of the liturgical year that are celebrated during the season of autumn ~ the month of the Holy Rosary, All Saints’ Day, All Souls’ Day, the month of November to pray for those who have died, and ending with Advent which begins a new liturgical year. What a fabulous season…let us thank God for the many opportunities we will have to live our faith over these next few months!

I would like to thank the Grade Five students for leading the Assembly yesterday morning. Both the students who were reading and those who were on “stand-by” to help the Grade Ones if needed, did a wonderful job of teaching the school about “Living Our Faith” and receiving “service stars” this year.

It looks like the rainy days are upon us so please make sure that your child is ready to be outside in the rain during the recess times. It is also a good idea to have an extra pair of socks in your child’s backpack just in case their feet get wet. The students do not need to have boots that are kept at school (and don’t really have space in their lockers to keep them) so please just send the boots to school on rainy days. If your child wears their boots to school, please make sure that they have their black shoes in their backpack. Thank-you!

Please check Mr. Kelly’s PE blog for details about games and practices this week.

How much should my child aim to collect in pledges for Walkathon? – Our Walkathon total last year was $69,653.00, and we’re hoping to beat it this year!  Averaged out over our 180 families, that would equal approximately $385 worth of pledges per family.   Students are encouraged to ask family members, relatives, family friends, and neighbours, all with parent permission and supervision.  We can do this!
