Grade 1

Week of Dec 4 – 8

Hi Grade One Families,

Today during our Grade 1 & 5 Assembly, Father Smith blessed our classroom Advent wreath, reminding us that the season of Advent is upon us! The season of Advent is such a special time of the year. It is four weeks that we are given to prepare and wait with joyful anticipation for the coming of our Saviour at Christmas. Just as we prepare our homes for special guests, so we are more importantly called to prepare our hearts for Jesus at Christmas. May our Advent season be blessed with quiet reflection, prayerful moments, generosity toward others, and joyful anticipation.

As we enter the first week of Advent, the Grade 1’s reflected in class on different ways they can prepare their hearts for Jesus during the season of Advent. They thought of prayer activities, acts of kindness, and small sacrifices they can make to become closer to Jesus. In our classroom, we have a life-size version of the calendar and we will read it each day and do our best to follow it. Some of them can’t be done at school, so we have sent home a paper copy of the calendar with each family. Please leave this somewhere visible, so that you can count down to Christmas with your family. We are excited to be journeying with your children throughout the season of Advent.

We are excited to roll out our Christmas charity project this year in support of Luke 15 House. You may recall that our staff retreat earlier this year was spent at Luke 15 House preparing and sharing a meal, doing activities, and sharing our faith together. The experience was so uplifting and meaningful, that we continue to explore all the different ways we can support the men who live there.

A note from Ms. Griffin:

Beginning this Monday, we are asking each child to bring in items that have been assigned to their class. Collection will take place all next week, with the final day to send items being Monday, Dec. 11th.

The staff will package the care kits on Tuesday the 12th , and then the staff will deliver the packages to Luke 15 House on Wednesday the 13 th . We will spread a little Christmas cheer, prepare and share a meal with the men, and do some fun activities.

The $5 cash will be put towards the purchase of gift cards for the residents, in addition to the care kit items. A mens large toque has been sourced from Dollarama to cost approximately $5, and then another $5 cash will make it a total donation per child of $10.

The Grade 1 class has been asked to bring 1 large adult toque and $5 cash per child
