Some general information about the Track & Field Meets @ Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.
Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation both to and from Swangard Stadium on the days of the event. Please allow yourself ample travel time as parking in and around the stadium is quite challenging. It can take as long as 10-15 minutes to walk from the parking areas to the stadium itself. Parents may wish to park on the neighbouring side streets to avoid the inevitable traffic congestion. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed so be sure to park in a designated spot.
Student athletes will meet staff @ Swangard in Section C of the stadium. All athletes must check in one hour before their scheduled event(s). Parents are most welcome to join us in the stands to cheer on our athletes. Athletes are permitted to leave the Track Meet once all of their events for the day have been completed. Students must also check out with the staff (Mr. Kirkham, Mrs. Knoll) when they are leaving the Track Meet.
Students will need to wear their gym strip and running shoes and be dressed appropriately (warm, dry, rain gear, sun hats, sunscreen etc.) for the day’s weather. This event proceeds rain or shine. Students will need adequate food, snacks, & water to sustain through a long and busy day of competition. A concession is available but students are only allowed to purchase snacks or treats from the concession once their events have all been completed.
For students spending the whole day at the track, they may wish to bring a book or a deck of cards to help occupy the time as it can be a long day, particularly for younger students. The use of electronic devices will be prohibited in the same way it is at school.
We are excited to return to the CISVA Track and Field Championships. A team meeting for all athletes will be held @ 10:15 in the gym on Tuesday June 4, 2024 to go over all of the expectations for the two days of competition.
