March 2nd-6th

This week, we had two very special days. Firstly, we had Pink Shirt Day in support of anti-bullying. The students discussed different ways they could show compassion towards their neighbour and how they could be a kind recess friend. We also began the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday, with all of the children receiving their ashes and purple bracelets. Kindergarten learned about the three pillars of Lent—prayer, fasting, and almsgiving and thoughtfully sacrificed something meaningful to them for the 40 days of Lent. The children are encouraged to wear their purple bracelets all throughout the season of Lent as a reminder of their Lenten promises. Kindergarten is looking forward to making this Lenten journey together!

  2. Fun Friends- Please review Session 5 and discuss “Red and Green Thoughts” with your child (this book can stay at home but please remember to review some activities in the assigned session with your child)
  3. Bookmark Contest– For those interested in participating in the Bookmark Contest, please have your child design and colour their own bookmark on the entry form, using the theme Move and Play All Through the Day. Please submit it to school by Monday, March 9th. We also encourage you to have a conversation with your child about the different ways they can keep their bodies moving throughout the day and why it is important to exercise.
  4. “Read-Well” book– This book contains all of your children’s work in our Language Arts Program “Read Well.” Please review the letter of the week and use the “Parent Prompt” questions (found at the bottom of each page) with your child.
    • If you notice that your child has not finished the back of their Letter Record page in class, please brainstorm with them three words that begin with that letter. Then, have them write down the three words on the dotted lines and draw their corresponding pictures in the blank box.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. Lenten School Mass – It’s been wonderful seeing so many of you at morning Mass! Please continue to do your best to attend. Reminder that Mass is at 8:15 am to accommodate families. Please have your children sit in the front rows with the rest of the school staff and students. You are welcome to have your children sit with you, if you are attending as well and would prefer to sit together as a family.
  2. 100s Day Form– Thank you to those who have already returned their 100s Day form. If you haven’t already done so, please provide feedback to your child on the back of the form and return it to school on Monday.
  3. School Uniform:
    • Sweaters- Please check your child’s school sweater(s) to ensure they have brought home their own, as we have had a few incidents of lost sweaters. We also kindly remind you to label your child’s sweater so that they can be returned, if they go missing.
    • Accessories– Please keep accessories simple and discreet. No jewellery except small studs for pierced ears and no nail polish. Hair accessories should match the uniform.
    • Pants/Tights- Please note that dress pants, socks, and girls’ tights should all be navy blue in colour.
  4. Toys – Just a friendly reminder that unless it is your child’s show and tell, please be sure to keep toys at home, so that they don’t get lost or broken at school.

Upcoming Dates:

  1. Thursday, March 12th– House on Pooh Corner field trip
  2. Friday, March 13th– Last Day of School before Spring Break (3pm Dismissal)

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
