January 13th-17th

We had a great first week back! The children were so excited to see all their friends again and to share how they celebrated over the holidays. However, the celebrations weren’t quite over yet as we started off the week by celebrating the Epiphany! The children learned about the gifts that the Three Wise Men brought to baby Jesus and reflected on gifts that they could give Jesus too. Kindergarten also created their own wintery landscapes during art this week. It was neat to see their snowy backgrounds come to life today as we got our first snowfall of 2020!

  1. 10 to 15 minutes of home reading (please use “My Reading” book, “Read-Well” book, and books from home)
  2. “Our Father” prayer – A copy of the Our Father will be put in your child’s Reading Book on Monday. Please practice this prayer every night with your child as we will begin incorporating it into our Morning Prayer routine.
  3. Baptism Memento– In continuation with our Family Traditions unit, we ask that each student bring in one memento from their own baptism (i.e. photo, candle, certificate etc.) to share with the class. Please place the item in a bag, labelled with your child’s name and have it brought in by Friday, January 17th. Please also take some time over the weekend to talk with your children about their own Baptism (please see email for more details).

Friendly Reminders:

  1. Homework Folders- Please go through your child’s homework folder every day as any important forms or notices will be placed in there. We kindly ask to send them back to school every day, as well, because the children are expected to hand theirs in each morning.
  2. Hot Lunch– Just a friendly reminder to please make sure your child brings his/her own reusable cutlery during hot lunch days as our food providers are NOT providing plastic cutlery for the students this year.

January Items:

  1. Winter Wear– Winter has come into full swing! Kindergarten is “Every day ready” and we go out regardless of the weather. Please ensure your child comes to school with a thick jacket, scarves, boots, mittens/gloves and toques to wear while outside. Without the proper attire, we unfortunately cannot let them go out to play.

Upcoming Dates:

  1. Monday, January 20th– Professional Development Day (No School)
  2. Thursday, January 23rd– Richmond Orchestra and Chorus Assembly @ 11:00
  3. Friday, January 24th– St. Paul Feast Day

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

With love,
