Home/January 11th-15th

January 11th-15th

Kindergarten had a great first week back! The children were so excited to see all their friends again and to share how they celebrated over the holidays. However, the celebrations weren’t quite over yet as we got to celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings this week! The children learned about the gifts that the Three Wise Men brought to baby Jesus and reflected on gifts that they could give to Jesus too.

  1. 10 to 15 minutes of home reading (please use “My Reading” book, “My Read Well” book, online reading programs, library books, or books from home)
  2. Number Formation- Inside your child’s Reading Book is a sheet with short rhymes that will help them practice their number printing. In class, the students have been reciting the rhyme that corresponds to our ‘Number of the Week’. Please review these rhymes at home with your child and continue practicing their number formation.
  3. Home Connection- Please see your child’s traditions and holidays booklet inside of their Reading Book and complete the sheet by Friday, January 15th.
  4. Baptism Memento– In continuation with our Family Traditions unit, we ask that each student bring in one memento from their own baptism (i.e. photo, candle, certificate etc.) to share with the class. Please place the item in a bag, labelled with your child’s name and have it brought in by Wednesday, January 20th. Please also take some time over the weekend to talk with your children about their own Baptism. A baptism activity will be sent home next week.
  5. “Our Father” prayer – A copy of the Our Father will be put in your child’s Reading Book on Monday. Please practice this prayer every night with your child as we will begin incorporating it into our Morning Prayer routine.
  6. Read Well Record Pages– If you notice that your child has not finished the back of their Letter Record page in class, please brainstorm with them three words that begin with that letter. Then, have them write down the three words on the dotted lines and draw their corresponding pictures in the blank box.

Friendly Reminders:

  1. Homework folders– These will continue to be sent home every day. Please check the folders daily and send them back to school every day as your child is expected to hand them in each morning.
  2. My Reading” book– This will be sent home every day. Please continue 10 to 15 minutes of daily reading with your child and place this book inside your child’s homework folder every day.
  3. My Read Well” book–This book contains all of your children’s work in our Language Arts Program “Read Well.” Please review the letter of the week and use the “Parent Prompt” questions (found on the bottom of the page) with your child.
  4. Extra Clothes– Thank you to those who have brought back their Extra Clothes to keep in the classroom. If you haven’t already done so, please send a new set of extra clothes in a large Ziplock bag with your child’s name on it. This bag should include pants, a top, underwear, socks, and an extra mask.
