Grade 3

September 9th-13th

Hello Grade 3 Families!

It was great to start to get to know your children last week^^* We had a wonderful first week of school and are slowly getting into our routines. On Thursday the students met the new music teacher, Ms Rumpel, and they each had the pleasure of singing their name! On Friday they met their Grade 7 buddies and interviewed them to get to know them better. They will be writing about their Buddy Interview in their journals.

By the end of this week, all the students will have a responsibility in the classroom. This is to help them become more and more responsible since next year they will be the older Buddies for the Grade 1 students. This will be their last year being the “younger ones”.

I love it when students start asking me, “When are we going to do…?” It shows how excited they are to learn and acquire new skills. Last week I was asked this question about cursive handwriting. The grade 3 student who asked me, was pleased to find out that we’ll be starting cursive this week. They will begin by reviewing the proper way to write the block letter script and should start to learn how to write in cursive before the end of the week.

Thank you for signing and returning their agenda books last week. Starting this week the students will also need your initials in their reading log. They will be starting RED, Read Every Day, and will be required to read for 30 minutes at home every day. On Monday they will prepare their RED  reading log and will be bringing it home in their zippered pocket with their agenda. Please encourage them by reading with them and asking questions. Reading every day makes a big difference in developing their reading skills, and it strengthens their writing skills by helping them acquire new vocabulary!

I will also be doing the Read Well assessments this week to be able to start the Read Well program as soon as possible.

I have started a Dojo Blog where I will be posting the pictures and videos that I will be taking of your children. Your child will be bringing your Dojo Invite home on Monday. It will be in the transparent pocket inside their agenda. You will need this code to connect to our Grade 3 2019-2020 Dojo classroom.

Please send in any outstanding forms for Mrs. Ong, along with your child’s birthday picture and 2 boxes of tissue, if it has not already been done.
