Grade 3

September 23rd-27th

Hello Grade 3 Families!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and that the rainy weather didn’t keep you inside^^* Autumn is definitely here!

This week the students will be starting additions and subtractions. We will still be continuing the Unit on Patterns and will be looking at additions and subtractions at the beginning and the end of the week. For this week the Grade 3 students will be going over what they learned in Grade 2.

Thank you for signing your child’s reading log on a daily basis. Last week your child practiced paired reading with a partner. If you could do paired reading with them at home twice a week, it would give them extra practice and would really help your child get off to a good start for our Read Well program. I will let your child explain to you how it should be done ;)!

The students will be bringing a Scholastic book order form home on Monday. I will be placing the order next Monday. A portion of the purchases comes back into the classroom. Last year I was able to buy a lot of the students’ favourite books to place in our classroom library through the points collected from Scholastic! This year I would like to use the points to purchase interesting games the students can use in the classroom during recess on rainy days. Your child will bring the flyers home about once a month and the orders take approximately 2 weeks to come in. If you prefer, you can also browse the books online and order them from there. Thank you very much for your generosity and happy reading!

RAPS Regional Animal Protection Society has an outreach program for schools and Mandy, the coordinator, will be coming to our classroom for an educational presentation on October 7th. The presentation lasts about 30 minutes. The Grade 3 students will learn about the role RAPS plays in the community, responsible pet care, volunteering, etc. During the presentation, we will also discuss various ways in which Grade 3s can help provide care for homeless animals.

Mandy informed me that she usually brings a pet(s) to the presentation. I have already talked about her coming to our class with the students last week to see if there were any allergies. A few students said that they were allergic to cats or rabbits. For the students concerned, I would like to ask their parents, if your child did not touch the pet, and if those who did touch it washed their hands right afterwards, would your child be able to comfortably attend the presentation? Please send me an email to let me know. If it is not the case, I will ask Mandy to restrain from bringing a pet to the presentation.
