Hello Grade 3 Families!
I hope that you had a wonderful time celebrating Mother’s Day. The Grade 3 students really enjoyed preparing your Mother’s Day cards. My wish, as a teacher and as a mom, is that you shared a special moment together when you opened them, and then saw the gift inside blossom when it was placed on water (if everything went according to plan^^*)!
Last Monday was the first time that the Grade 3 students participated in the St. Joe’s and St. Paul’s track meet! They did really well and seemed to have enjoyed being able to participate. I will be posting the pictures that I took of the event on the Dojo Blog. The track schedule will resume this coming Monday. When Mr. Kelly spoke to the children on Tuesday, he explained that their participation is now OPTIONAL. However, he would still like to encourage as many of them as possible to come out. There are 2 more track meets coming up: Vancouver College and CISVA. These will be more competitive, and the coaches will be selecting the students to represent our school. Only the top student(s) for each event will be chosen for each grade. We would also like to thank you for getting your child to all the practices, especially at Minoru. We truly appreciate your commitment and support. Without your participation, all of this would not be possible.
On Friday each student brought home an order form for treats that can be bought in support of the Grade Seven “Grand Finale” Fundraiser. It should be inside the transparent pocket in their agenda. The fundraiser will be held on Friday June 14 in the afternoon. It will be a show put on by the Grade Seven class in the gym. During the performance, the students will be allowed to eat the treats that they ordered. The orders must be handed in by Wednesday May 15. This will allow the Grade Seven students suficient time to count, purchase and prepare the snack orders.
Each student who orders snacks will be given their bag of treats before entering the show on June 14. If you place an order for your child, please make sure that you clearly print your child’s name and Grade on the order form. Please place the order and the exact amount of cash into a bag or envelope labeled with your child’s name. All of the proceeds will be going to charities chosen by the Grade Seven class. Thank-you for your support!
In this last term, the students will be doing an oral presentation on a topic of their choice. I gave them a few days to think about it and asked them to let me know at the beginning of this week what they would want to present or talk about. It is open-ended and should preferably be something they feel passionate about. One of the Big Ideas in the BC curriculum is “Language and story can be a source of creativity and joy”. The goal is to have them tap into their “creativity and joy” while preparing and doing their presentation. It can also be a demonstration, as long as they are able to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it. There is no obligation to do a written description with the presentation unless it is a part of it. The evaluation will be on their oral presentation. I will send home a handout with the criteria on which they will be evaluated along with the expectations on the participation of the students who will be the audience.
I have not yet placed the scholastic order. I will be placing it at the end of the day on Monday. If you would like to place an online order, please do so before 5PM.
