Hello Grade Two Families,
Although it was a short week, it was a busy one in Grade Two! First, we learned about St. Valentine and discovered that the reason we hand out cards and treats on this day is to let others know we care about them, just like St. Valentine did! The class also got to make heart-themed art and participate in Valentine’s Day centres with their buddies! I could definitely feel the love in the air and hope you feel the same amount of love at home, especially on this Family Day long weekend!
Then, on Wednesday, the students celebrated the 100th day of Grade Two! They wrote about what they would do when they’re 100 years old and created a craft to go along with it. One hundred thanks to you, parents, for helping your children with their one-derful costumes! The past hundred days of school have flown by and there’s no slowing down!
Speaking of not slowing down, while we may have paused the First Communion program, we will begin preparing for First Reconciliation by reading Bible stories about Jesus’ love, mercy and forgiveness. We will also learn about what sins are, what we can do to avoid temptation, and how we can be forgiven. The children have already been reciting the Act of Contrition in class, a prayer to tell God that we are sorry. Please stay tuned, as I will be sending home the Steps to Reconciliation (including the Act of Contrition) so that you can practice with your child. They will need to have these steps memorized for their First Reconciliation.
We also begin the Lenten season this week with Ash Wednesday. The children will explore the ways they can grow closer to Jesus during Lent through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Starting on Thursday, Feb. 23, we will attend morning Mass everyday together as a school community. All students are encouraged to attend Mass. There is a reserved section for the students in the front to sit with the teachers. Mass starts at 8:15 am, so please arrive on time. Parents are welcome to stay for Mass too!
