Welcome to a New School Year!

Hello Grade One Families!

Welcome to a new school year! I hope that you all had a wonderful summer making memories that you will cherish for years to come. This year it will be a pleasure to welcome back some families with whom I have worked before and meet so many new families. Our Archdiocesan theme this year is “I Can Do All Things Through Christ”. I am looking forward to working with all of you to help your child explore ways to deepen their relationship with Jesus, how we can all be the wonderful, unique people God created us to be, and how we can strive to let our holiness shine in all aspects of our life.

This year will be the exciting move into the “big school”, having lockers, changing into PE strip, and many other new adventures in school life! If, at any time, you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to e-mail me at nkelly@stpaulschool.ca. It is always best to address questions and concerns directly so that we can all work together to make sure concerns are addressed and achievements are celebrated!

This year there will be two Education Assistants working with the Grade One students. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Mrs. Schell will be with us and on Tuesdays and Thursdays it will be Mrs. Workman. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with them this year!

I would like to thank Mrs. Tinsay for agreeing to be the Grade One homeroom parent this year. I’m sure that she will be in touch with you throughout the year as she helps me to organize various class events. While Mrs. Tinsay will be taking a leadership role in this, I look forward to many parents working together to make these special occasions fun for the students.

During this first week of school we will spend time reconnecting with classmates and begin learning the routines and expectations of Grade One. One new routine is changing for PE. All students wear their PE t-shirt and shorts underneath the regular school uniform on PE days. Running shoes are kept in the lockers for the school year. At PE time, the students remove their outer uniform, fold it onto their home table, and change into their PE shoes. It is very important that the students be able to do this independently so please practice changing into and out of the school uniform at home if this is a skill that your child needs to master. The students’ first PE class will be on Friday September 6.  Another new routine is drop-off and pick-up. The Grade One students line up closest to the brick wall on the west side of the covered area. Supervision is provided as of 8:30am and parents are not required to stay with their children until the bell rings. At pick-up time, the students are dismissed into the covered area. It is very important that your child knows who is picking them up on any given day so that they know who to look for in the covered area. As Mrs. Moorehead mentioned in her previous e-mail, she will be updating everyone on drop-off and pick-up procedures on Monday. Thank-you!
