Grade 1

Week of November 29 – December 3

God of light, bring us hope.

Help us to find hope this Advent season.

Help us to prepare for the coming of the Lord.

We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, our hope. Amen

Hello Grade One Families!

Advent is here!

The beautiful season of joyful hope!

The beginning of a new Church year!

The season of Advent is such a special time of the year. It is four weeks that we are given to prepare and wait with joyful anticipation for the coming of our Saviour at Christmas. Just as we prepare our homes for special guests, so we are more importantly called to prepare our hearts for Jesus at Christmas. May our Advent be blessed with quiet reflection, prayerful moments, generosity toward others, and joyful anticipation.

Homework Folders

Thank-you so much for your support of the homework folders this month! It is so interesting for me to see the preferences for work at home. If you forgot to send in the homework folder on Friday, please send it in on Monday so that it can be updated. The December homework calendar and assignments will be sent home on Monday November 29 and the folder is to be returned on Monday December 13 please.

Where will our learning journey take us this week?

  • as we get closer to the Christmas holidays, we need to spend more time on strategies for keeping our minds and bodies calm so that we can get along well with others, be patient, and focus on lessons and activities
  • we will learn about the Advent wreath and Old Testament prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus
  • the students will continue to learn about patterns, particularly the naming of patterns and showing a specific pattern in multiple ways
  • as an extension of the cycle of day and night which was introduced last week, the students will have opportunities to explore why there is day and night, and why the moon looks like it is shrinking and growing
  • students will share some of their responsibilities within their family and how responsibilities of children in different parts of the world are the same and different
  • we will continue to practice writing correct sentences  – with a Christmas theme this time, and sequencing plot events in Christmas stories
