Grade 1

Week of November 25 – 29

Hello Grade One Families!

This Sunday we come to the end of our liturgical year as we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. Looking back on this past liturgical year, I am thankful for all that the students continue to teach me about loving Jesus and what a blessing it is to be able to grow in my faith along with them. Beginning on Monday, we will look forward with great anticipation to the new liturgical year beginning next Sunday with the first Sunday of Advent. We will have the blessing of the Advent wreaths at our 9:00am Assembly on November 29. I hope that you can join us as we celebrate the beginning of the Advent season together!

The Grade One students all enjoy their PE classes with Mr. Kelly and this week will be extra-special. The students will have guest instructors teaching them about hip hop dancing! It should be lots of fun! On Friday afternoon at 1:30pm there will be a special Assembly during which each class will perform a dance routine they have learned. Please join us if you can!

I would like to thank Mrs. Tinsay, our homeroom parent, for organizing our St. Nicholas Day breakfast party for Grade One students and their parents. Please send in the wrapped Christmas book to me by Friday November 29, 2019 so that we can make sure that we have enough books for all of the students. Thank-you so much! I’m looking forward to seeing you there!

This week we will begin a short unit on belonging to a family. We will learn about belonging to the family of God through Baptism and Fr. Edwin will spend time with the students in the Church teaching them about the symbols of Baptism. Also, the students will be bringing home one sheet per week that is to be completed at home and returned on Friday. You as the parents and grandparents of the children are truly the best ones to teach them about your family life. Please take time to work with your child on the activity sheet and spend time talking about and celebrating your family life. Every Friday, the children will choose one section of their sheet to share with their classmates. We will focus on how all families are unique and special, and also look for similarities between all of our families.

Please note the following notes for the upcoming week:
