Grade 1

Week of May 3 – 7

Hello Grade One Families!

What a beautiful day! I hope that you were all able to spend some time outside enjoying a lovely West Coast weekend!

Thank-you to everyone for sending in donations for Catholic Charities! I think that the students had fun on Friday hanging out in their “comfortable clothes”. It always brings a bit of casualness to the day when the students are not in uniform.

Here we are at the beginning of a new month and a new set of topics to explore together. In Catholic Education, we will hear stories about the life of Mary and continue learning about the Mass. Our focus in reading comprehension will be non-fiction books and finding the main idea with supporting details. We will mostly use animal books which connects well with our new science unit on animal adaptations. As you may have seen at the student-led conferences, we had been looking at how rural environments change into urban ones. Now we will explore this further looking at how people change natural environments to meet their needs. This will be very hands on as the students try building bridges, dykes etc. Finally, in math we will spend time learning about Canadian money and financial literacy in our number talks; and practice describing, sorting and working with shapes and 3-D objects.

Please note the following details for this week:

  • PE class
