Grade 1

Week of April 4 – 8, 2022

Hello Grade One Families!
Happy Sunday! I hope that you are all enjoying this rainy day and remembering that “April showers bring May flowers”.

Thank-you to all of the families who have made Lent morning Mass part of their daily routine. As we come to the last two weeks of Lent, we once again invite and encourage all students (and parents) to join us for morning Mass at 8:15am.

When you receive the homework folders tomorrow, you will notice that “Show and Tell” is now one of the homework assignments. Please read the instructions on the homework page and email me if you have any questions. There are no themes for Grade One “Show and Tell”. I will go over the instructions with the students tomorrow as well.

As we continue on our Grade One learning journey, here are some of our topics for the month of April:

  • serving others (Works of Mercy)
  • Holy Week including the Easter Triduum
  • the beginning of the liturgical season of Easter
  • addition and subtraction computation and problem solving
  • poetic language and poetry writing
  • inferring as it applies to reading comprehension (Why do you think…?)
  • how certain natural materials are traditionally used by First Nations People
  • how and why we use certain materials and if there are alternative materials that can be used
  • how communities change over time
  • coding our robot Cubetto

We are looking forward to sharing some of this learning with you at the student-led conferences later this month.
