Grade 1

February 16 – 19

Hello Grade One Families!
I hope that you all had a wonderful extra long weekend! There were so many things to celebrate – Lunar New Year, St. Valentine’s Day, the snow, and Family Day. I hope that your family was able to spend joyful time together and create some fun memories to treasure.

This week, on Ash Wednesday, we will begin the season of Lent. The Church provides us with forty days to transform our hearts to become more like Jesus Christ. It allows us time to quiet ourselves, reflect on the wondrous gift that we were given when Jesus came as our Saviour, and prepare for Easter, the most holy and joyful day of our Church year. On Ash Wednesday, the students will watch the Mass together beginning at 9:05am (it is the Parish 8:00am Mass on YouTube). They will have the opportunity to receive ashes and will also receive a class blessing after we watch the Mass. If you would like to begin your Lent season with us, I would encourage you to also watch the Mass and come to receive ashes and the Holy Eucharist at the times provided in this week’s Sunday bulletin.

Also, just a reminder from my email last week that the students are asked to bring in a flashlight (labeled with their name) for our science explore lessons this week.

Finally, although the snow is rapidly melting, I am sure that the field will be very muddy so please make sure that your child has boots to wear outside for recess. Thank-you!

Please note the following for the remainder of this week:

  • please bring a flashlight if possible
  • PE class

Wednesday  ~ Ash Wednesday

  • PE class

  • no PE class

  • PE class
  • Fukuroku hot lunch for those who ordered (please send cutlery for your child to use)

Please email me at if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a super week!

Mrs. Kelly 🙂
