Areas of Study:
- the Paschal Mystery and the Mass (until Ash Wednesday)
- Open Parachute = “Anger, Family Violence, and Creating Systems of Support”
- immigration and citizenship
- the human body and how organ systems interact with each other and the environment
- whole numbers to 1,000,000 (expanded notation, computation, rounding etc.) and moving onto multiplying and dividing whole numbers
- solving 2-3 step math word problems
- continuing the novel study of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (figurative language, vocabulary development, character study, paragraph writing, reading comprehension)
Supporting Learning at Home:
- spelling activities (I have reminded the students that this is a weekly opportunity to practice paragraph writing skills as noted in #4 of the suggested spelling assignments)
- discussing the story and characters of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by either reading the novel at home or by watching the movie (there are many versions)
- there will be an immigration project that will be assigned by February 10 to be completed partially at home with parent and/or grandparent involvement and then presented to the class before Spring Break
- multiplying and dividing whole numbers (worksheets may be assigned for homework as needed)
