November 27th-December 1st

 Good morning!

The students of Grade 5 have been working incredibly hard over the past few weeks to transfer their learning from the first few months of school to their own projects and presentations. I have so enjoyed reading their Autobiographies and clicking through their Google Slides presentations on sustainability. They are such a keen and hard working group. These next few weeks we will slow down a bit as we wrap up the main themes and topics of first term. This slowing down is in perfect harmony of my favourite time of year, Advent. As we lessen our work load, we begin to raise more awareness to the coming of Christ and reflect on the many wonderful things we are blessed with because of Him. During the month of December, I encourage the students to bring in any of their favourite Christmas books, memories or traditions that they wish to share with the class. We will use our daily Read Aloud time to hear the students tell their own stories (either reading a book or a written summary of a personal memory or tradition that they wish to share) as we begin to get in the spirit of Christmas (and practice our oral storytelling skills ). There is no obligation to present, only for those that wish to :)

November 15th-17th

 Good Morning!

How strange to only be writing about a 3 day school week! I hope everyone has found some much needed TLC time over these 4 days (and hopefully a couple hours here and there to work on those projects )

Our SHORT Week at a Glance:

Wednesday:

-Christian Education (Religion) projects are due on Google Classroom

-Your child may or may not have taken home a multiplication and division package this weekend. Please note they are not homework in the sense that they are expected to hand them in. I gave the class the option of taking them home for extra practice to assist with our more complex long division and multiplication strategies that require a good understanding of those foundational skills. I was impressed with how many took on the extra practice, such good evidence of taking ownership of their learning!

-Our larger unit projects for L. Arts and SS/Sci are due next week, Monday the 20th. All of the criteria and rubrics can be viewed on Google Classroom.

-Grade 5 is leading the all school Mass, Wednesday the 22nd~ please join us!

If at any time you have any questions or concerns feel free to send me an email!

Best,
Ms. Haughian

 Good Evening Grade 5 Families!

What a much better looking day today than we've had the past few. -Special note: I no longer ask that parents sign their child's agenda each night. I will continue to do so at school to ensure homework is being recorded. Of course, I encourage you to check over but no need to continue with the signatures as I will not look at their agendas the next morning unless there is a note from home inside.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments please feel free to email me!
