Grade 4's blog

Oct. 23-27

Dear Grade Four Families,

On Friday and Saturday, the staff of St. Paul School attended the Superconference at the Convention Centre along with 6000 other teachers from the Lower Mainland.  We listened to some amazing keynote speakers who shared their expertise in areas of inquiry based learning, planning and assessment using the new BC curriculum, digital literacy, and many more.  We were inspired, challenged, and affirmed that we are already doing amazing things at St. Paul School.

This past week, we had several guests come to our class.  On Tuesday, Mr. Jones came to speak to the class about his research study that will involve some of the students from the class.  On Wednesday, we had Mrs. Patterson launch our study in Social Studies. Dear Grade Four Families,

The children have been working hard in preparing for the FSA.  We practiced the reading comprehension section this past week, and the children collaborated together and discussed what the topics might be about using clues from the title and a picture.  This collaborative activity is new to this year's FSA.  The children will also be given a choice as to which topic they would like to read and write about.  I hope that the students will feel confident when writing the FSA after having at least one practice run for each section.

Sept. 11-15

Dear Grade Four Families,

It was a wonderful week to reconnect with the students again!  I'm so pleased with how the flexible seating is working out in class.  The students enjoy the freedom of choosing a spot that best suits their learning style, and I like that they get to work with different classmates all the time.  The round tables allow the students to collaborate, work together, and help each other out.  This week, the students will also have more responsibilities in class.  They all have a classroom job for the week, so ask your child what they are responsible for!

Here are the reminders for the week:

Monday:

  • PE class with Mr. Kelly
  • Cross-Country forms due today
    • practice after school from 3:00-3:45pm
    • If practice ever needs to be cancelled due to rain, Mr. Kelly will post that information on the PE and Music blog by 12noon for that day...please check the blog regularly
