Book Fair Contest

Next week, we will be having our annual Scholastic Book Fair in the library.  The children will have an opportunity to purchase books, which is always an exciting time for them.

As part of the Book Fair, the children have an opportunity to put their names in for a draw.  From each class, one lucky student will be chosen to pick a free book. For the primary classes, the children receive a ballot every time they read a book for 15 minutes.  Thus, the more books they read, the better the chance of winning a free book!

So, if your child happens to read at home for 15 minutes or longer, please indicate how long they read in their agenda books.  I will then give them their ballots at school.

Good luck and happy reading!!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Imoo

Changes to the First Communion Schedule

Dear Parents,

As you already know, due to the power outage this evening, we were unable to have our First Communion meeting.  Father Luterbach and the First Communion team decided to postpone our meeting and first mass on belonging to next week.  Thus, our schedule will be pushed a week later for the first 4 meetings and masses before Lent.  The schedule remains the same for April and May.

Thank you very much for your understanding.  We'll see you next Wednesday, Jan. 25 for our first meeting.

Take care,

Mrs. Imoo

Miscellaneous Items

Dear Parents,

I have noticed that some of the children have been bringing miscellaneous items from home that are becoming distracting to the children's learning in class.  The rule at St. Paul School is that they are not allowed to bring items from home into the school because it may get lost or damaged.  Students must only use items required from the Grade 2 supply list or that were provided by the supplier at the beginning of the year.    I will ask all the children to bring home their miscellaneous items tomorrow. Going forward, if your child bring any miscellaneous items to school, we will send the items to the office for you to pick up.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Imoo

Another reminder...

Please pack some warm clothing for your child to wear at Garry Point.  Mr. Kelly told them to bring some sweatpants, a jacket, gloves, touque, etc. to stay warm before and after the race.

Thanks!

Mrs. Imoo

Also, please send your book order to school tomorrow.  I will be putting the October order in.

Reminders for Tomorrow

Hello Parents,

Tomorrow is Picture Day at school.  Please make sure that your child wears his/her complete uniform, including his/her sweater.

Also, walkathon pledge forms are due tomorrow.  I will return the forms back to your child on Friday after we complete the walkathon so that you can start collecting money.  If you have already sent in the form with the money, thank you very much!  Our school appreciates your generosity and contributions.

Hopefully the weather turns out well for us on Friday.  If you have signed up to volunteer for the walkathon, the list is posted up by the office.  You can check for your "job" for Friday!

Thank you and have a good evening!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Imoo

Home Reading Program

Hello Parents!

Your child has brought home their first Home Reading book today.

Just a few pointers and reminders:

  • Your child will bring home a reading booklet and communication booklet each day in a Ziplock bag
  • Please make sure that you record your observation in a box each night
  • You only have to focus on one skill per evening.
  • If the book is quite long, please read for 15 minutes and record your observation for that portion of the book.
    • Have your child bring the communication booklet to school everyday so that I know that he/she has done the homework
    • When your child takes home the communication booklet again, finish up the book and record your observations on the next box.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

The goal is to practice reading each night for 15 minutes.  Make sure that they are pausing after each sentence and reading with fluency and expression.  If they struggle through a word, let them try to sound it out first.  If they are still stuck, please help them.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the following parents who served with joyful hearts by putting these booklets together:  Mrs. Law, Mrs. Tam, Mr. Wellbanks, Mrs. Au, Mrs. Xiao and Mrs. Reyes.

A special thank you goes out to our awesome Homeroom Parent, Mrs. Dee, who spent 2 days printing out the stories and photocoping it.

Enjoy reading with your child!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Imoo
